Episode List and Summaries These be the episodes in a nutshell. They're full of spoilers too. If you want a straightforward story rather than flashbacks, it is recommended that you skip episode one and watch Gungrave as is.
Episode 1: Destroyer in the Dusk This is pretty much episode 18. Skip this unless you don't mind seeing most of the episodes taking place in flashbacks.
Episode 2: Young Dogs Kenny steals a one of a kind necklace from someone very powerful. Deed's gang challenges Harry's group to a fight. Kenny ends up being kidnapped by the people he stole the necklace from and Harry and the gang go to rescue him
Episode 3: Rain Harry and the gang find Joulis dead when they return from the rescue. Harry discovers that Ladd is not dead after all. While the group is in hiding, Brandon seeks Maria's uncle for help. The uncle gives Brandon some money and offers him a gun as well. Deed shows up to try and act tough but the Uncle shoots at him and scares him off. Mad Dog Ladd appears lamenting how pathetic his brother is and kills off the Uncle, Kenny, and Nathan. Before Ladd could kill Brandon and Harry, Bear Walken shows up and kills Mad. Afterwards, Harry takes the gun and avenges his friend by killing Deed.
Episode 4: Go Starts off at the uncle's funeral. Brandon and Harry also visit the graves of Kenny and Nathan. Maria sits at home crying over what she can do now that the Uncle is gone. Luckily for her, a close friend of her Uncle offers to take her in. Harry pisses off the most powerful guy in town and while Brandon and Harry try to visit the Uncle's grave, that is when the dude's henchmen go after them. They got beat but lucky for them, "The President" was also planning to visit the grave and The President sends his subordinates to take care of the punks. Harry and Brandon are saved, and afterward Harry convinces the executive to allow him to prove that he is worthy of joining Millenion.
Episode 5: Millenion Harry and Brandon prove their worth and are now joining Millenion. Brandon starts off on the bottom as someone who goes after people who try to back out of their bets. Harry on the other hand, starts off as an assistant to one of the top executives. Brandon is introduced to Balladbird Lee and Bob Poundmax. After Brandon and his boss retrieve stolen goods of Millenion, Brandon finds Harry. Harry reveals to him the location of Maria. Brandon seeks Maria out at her school.
Episode 6: Big Daddy Maria and Brandon get together for lunch and to talk. This catches the eye of Millenion workers. Brandon's boss and Harry explain why Brandon should not see her. The reason being that people might use Maria to get to the top. When Brandon leaves the bar, Big Daddy summons Brandon. Brandon is taken to the mansion to meet Big Daddy. Big Daddy shows Brandon how to fish while explaining his situation with Maria.
Later on, a party is held by Big Daddy. It is overheard that another group known as Lightning, is planning to crash the party and assassinate Big Daddy. Harry's group deals with Lightning on the outside while Brandon acts as a human shield to protect Big Daddy from a bullet.
Episode 7: 5 Years Later 5 years pass by. Both Harry and Brandon have gone up pretty far, with Brandon becoming one of the top sweepers of Millenion. Volcano gathers information on Lee, Bob, Harry, and Brandon, to hire Bunji Kugashira to kill them.
Episode 8: Family Harry and Brandon are welcomed to The Family. Cid's son made the mistake of killing a Millenion member. Cid chooses to die for his son and let him free. Walken is given the task of killing Cid for his son's betrayal but cannot bring himself to do it. Instead Brandon does the job for him.
Episode 9: Dispute Episode starts off at Cid's funeral. Blood War, a guy who killed 327 men, is freed from prison. Canon Vulcan, Blood's buddy, introduces him to the secret Necrolyzation project using the corpse of a dog. Whatever they're doing, Millenion doesn't like it so Harry encounters Blood and Vulcan at a bar to see what's up. Vulcan wouldn't say anything so they leave. In the end, Balladbird Lee, is seen working for Lightning.
Episode 10: Conflict Blood's war begins. Brandon and Bunji find themselves in explosions set off by Blood. Many of Millenions executives are being killed off, despite outnumbering Lightning. Harry asks Millenion to allow him and Brandon to handle Blood. alken gives him 3 days to handle it. Meanwhile, Brandon and Bunji finally discovers Lightning's secret and are caught. Blood spares the both of them and offers Brandon to work under him. Harry does some research and confronts Lee, the traitor. While Harry does that, Brandon tricks Blood instead of bringing Big Daddy and joining Blood.
Episode 11: Heat Harry faces off against Lee. Brandon continues to shoot Blood's guys for nothing. Blood reveals to Brandon, the Necrolyzation project and offers him one last chance to join. Brandon refuses so Blood goes ahead to kill him to Necrolyze him later. Out of nowhere Bunji shows up and helps Brandon.
After getting his hass kicked, Harry tells Lee to look around. He explains to Lee that Lee is better off working with him as well as plans to cover up Lee's betrayal. Lee soon encounters his brother, Vulcan to ask about his objective. Before Lee could kill Vulcan, one of the Necrolyzed men stops him. Brandon and Bunji are also injured and exhausted. When everyone looks like they're going to be screwed, Dr. Tokioka appears and explains that the Necrolyzed bodies will be deteoriating.
Brandon takes advantage of this and shoots the hell out of Blood. While Brandon and Bunji rest a bit, Blood limps off somewhere. They both leave the wearhouse to finish Blood off but Blood Necrolyzes himself. Before Blood could shoot after being revived, Harry and Lee arrive. Harry shoot at Blood for nothing. Then, Walken arrives with his Overkill to protect them. Even Overkill has no effect yet somehow Brandon kills Blood off with one last shot from Blood's own gun.
Episode 12: Kind Maria is in a bunch of flowers and imagines young Brandon standing there looking at her. He fades away as if it were a symbol of how distant he really is to her now. Brandon is now a bit older and with a new haircut. He enters a meeting late, and helps Harry persuade some casino owners to cooperate. Afterwards, Harry, Lee and Bob discuss some things. Bob reports that Randy's henchmen are watching over them. They decide to plot around this and get back at Randy.
Brandon starts thinking back on when Harry introduced Shera to him. Shera asks if Brandon has someone special in his life. Then the memories shift onto when Big Daddy asks him why he missed Maria's birthday party. Big Daddy tells Brandon that he doesn't want Brandon to die alone.
After being dropped off by Harry, Shera argues with her father and says she will stay by Harry's side. At a bar, Bunji's subordinate asks why Brandon is even part of Millenion. Bunji thinks it's because Brandon's heart is covered in iron. Then the phone rings and Bunji takes on a job. He gets grazed but finishes the job nonetheless. At the office, Brandon smites Bunji for taking the job on his own and sends him off.
At the mansion, Big Daddy speaks with Maria. He asks for her opinion on making Harry and Brandon as his partners. Maria confesses that she knew about the organization 4 years ago after doing some investigating. They start talking about Brandon. Later on, Harry checks on Dr. Tokioka. He had him continue the Necrolyzation research in secret.
Episode 13: Betrayal Harry and Brandon catch up with eachother and have a drink. They start talking about betrayal and to never do that to the Family. Meanwhile, Randy's subordinate reports something suspicious going on in Harry's group. Harry is making too much money and Millenion isn't getting half of it. About 10 million yule. Randy tells his worker dude to keep a close watch on Harry's activities.
After Randy contemplates about Harry, it soon switches to a dead body floating in Harry's pool. Harry is greeted by Sherry. After doing some couply stuff Bear Walken interrupts. Supposedly he's visiting but it's been reported to him that something suspicious is going on too.
Elsewhere, an underling is caught trying to give something to a worker under Harry's group. Lee appears and questions him. Lee kills the guy after making him think that Lee believes and trusts that he wasn't doing anything wrong.
At the cemetery, Rich is laying flowers on his mother's grave. Before he can leave, Brandon also shows up to do the same. To Rich's surprise, Brandon brought Big Daddy along to show his respect as well. Rich is honored and thankful for what Brandon has done for him.
Brandon is then assigned by Big Daddy to be a body guard. He has to check out the intentions of a guest at Valentino's. Meanwhile, Bear Walken enjoys dinner at Harry's place. He asks Sherry to leave so he can talk with Harry. He starts asking how high Harry intends to climb. Harry concludes his plan by saying that he needs the support of Sherry in order to make it. Walken tries to call Harry on his BS but when he looks into Harry's eyes, he is shocked to see that Harry is sincere about needing Sherry's support.
Back at Valentino's, Brandon enters a room where Maria awaits. She asks the usual concerned questions and even invites Brandon to sit down a bit. Brandon refuses saying that he has work to do. Finally Maria starts to break down a little and lament about her love towards him and how he never talks to her. The discussion ends when Brandon pulls out his gun and tells her that he's a hitman. He leaves the room.
Outside, Big Daddy waits for him. He confesses that he loves Maria. Brandon tells Bid Daddy to go in and he does that. Brandon then walks off somewhere, thinking to himself about climbing high with Harry.
Now the betrayal begins. Someone calls Randy in his car, informing him that someone has deposited 10 million yule into his secret account. Randy has been set up by Harry, and Randy is killed by Bunji there. Randy is set up to take the blame for Harry's activities, and everyone, even Walken, is convinced that Randy is a traitor.
Episode 14: Die Brandon almost executes Harry for scheming to kill Big Daddy. Brandon couldn't kill Harry and instead Harry pulls a fast one on him and kills Brandon instead.
Episode 15: Harry Harry becomes the new boss of Millenion.
Episode 16: Letter Dr. Tokiyoka passes on Brandon's letter to Big Daddy. Big Daddy finds out the truth behind Harry's schemes and is entrusted with summoning the Necrolyzed Brandon whenever he needed. Big Daddy prefers to have Brandon rest and leaves Brandon's protection to Maria.
Episode 17: Mika Harry discovers Big Daddy's, daughter, Mika. So there is no dispute over the succession of Millenion, Harry sends his subordinates to kill her.
Episode 18: Grave Brandon is revived under the new name of Grave, in order to protect Mika from the organization. Meanwhile, Mika tries to gather information on Millenion and the people who murdered her mother. She and Grave hide out in the city.
Episode 19: Superior Bob's life is threatened by cerebral thrombosis and Laguna suggests to Lee to "Necrolyze" Bob while he is still alive. Fearing for the safety of his best friend, Lee decides to have the procedure tested onto him first before even trying it on Bob.
Grave heads to a building to find Harry. With his new powers, Bob volunteers to take on Grave. Bob fights Grave as a superior but we know who wins.
Episode 20: Brother At the office, Lee is outraged at Bob's death. After destroying the room, Walken calms Lee down. Lee makes it an order that only he can kill Grave. At the cemetery, Bunji digs up Brandon's grave to confirm if Brandon really came back. No corpse.
At the warehouse, Mika attempts to talk to Grave. He wasn't listening though. Dr. Tokioka comes in and asks whether or not Mika wants to go after the organization. In the main office, Harry tries to figure out how Grave has come back. Then it dawns on him that it's Dr. Tokioka.
Back in the city, two Millenion agents think someone knows where Mika and Grave are at. He really doesn't know and before they can kill him, Mika throws a can at the agent and urges the guy to run off. When she is caught, Grave kicks the crap out of both of them. They decide to check out Maria's old house.
Elsewhere, Bunji's underling reports to him about the incident. Bunji orders everyone to leave section C so he can fight Grave alone. When Grave and Mika leave the house, Bunji is outside waiting for them. Mika is sent to run off while they fight. Since Grave is Necrolyzed, Bunji brought explosives and special bullets to make things more equal. After Grave dodges a few explosives, he stops at a teddy bear and is finally hit. After getting up, Bunji shoots at him with the special ammo that is effective against the dead.
Before Bunji can kill Grave, Mika stops him. Bunji is distracted by her pleas and Grave gets up and punches him. After Mika pleads with Grave to spare him, Dr. Tokioka says grave can only regain 70% of his strength after recovery.
Episode 21: Duty Bunji has disappeared. At Walken's, someone reports the incident to him. Millenion has the entire city on watch. After recovery, Grave seeks refuge at the home of an old friend. They catch up on things and Grave and Mika learn that Harry killed Big Daddy. Mika weeps.
In an alley, Dr. Tokioka recieves information about the current research on Necrolyzation as well as the Superiors. He couldn't do this undiscovered and agents shoot at him.
Back at the house, Grave asks his friends to watch over Mika so he can leave for the night. In the daytime, Grave heads straight into the police. The police report it to headquarters, and Orgmen are sent. While Grave is distracted by this, Lee arrives at the house. He kills Grave's friends and kidnaps Mika.
After killing all the Orgmen, Grave is affected by his wound. Dr. Tokioka drives by to get him. On the radio, Mika's voice is recorded, as a message to Grave. Grave and Tokioka rush to the house to find everyone dead. Grave grieves.
At Laguna's lab, Bunji asks Laguna to give him a new and powerful body.
Episode 22: Remorse
Grave is being recovered. At the office, Walken warns Harry that he should approach the situation more carefully.
Lee and the hostage are at a train station. Before Grave arrives, Lee tells Mika about Big Daddy at her requests. He then starts laughing and making fun of Grave. Mika yells at him to stop. Soon they can hear Grave arriving. Grave goes through all the Orgmen with ease. A bunch of purple bombs drop onto him though and explode. Grave arrives at the area with his hat and coat blown off.
With Mika's life threatened, Grave surrenders his weapons. Lee begins to attack him relentlessly and soon reveals his Superior form. The lights at the station turn on, and Dr. Tokioka arrives. With Lee distracted, Grave shoots Mika free and they head for the train. Grave keeps Lee at bay and soon Lee falls off the speeding train. Before Dr. Tokioka can give him the new ammo, Lee returns, tearing the back of the train off. He shoots out some circly blades, and Mika is knocked unconscious and Graves gun is knocked from his hand. While Grave takes all those hits, Dr. Tokioka reloads Grave's gun and tosses it to him. The gun is loaded with ammo effective against Superiors. Grave defeats Lee.
During the confrontation, Dr. Tokioka is severely wounded. He won't live very long so he asks Grave to be pumped with more blood. Grave now has 10 days left of mobility. Dr. Tokioka dies.
Episode 23: Daughter Grave and Mika dig graves for Gary, Rich, and Dr. Tokioka. Mika tries to convince Grave to forget about revenge, but he continues on. At Millenion, executives call a meeting to discuss who should replace Lee and Bob. They also try to get Harry to resign. Harry disagrees with this and has his men killed off by Orgmen.
At the warehouse, Mika starts talking about her feelings for Grave. She starts asking him why he distanced from her mother. Grave tells Mika that all he can do is be her guardian.
At Harry's, he urges Bear to retire. Sherra tries to convince him to but Walken feels as if he hasn't done enough yet. Bear suddenly has to leave to get some work done. Bear meets his Overkill in the area where Grave and Maria are. He disbands Overkill. Afterwards, he enters the warehouse and has a talk with Grave. Grave tries to hit Walken, feeling as if Walken has betrayed Big Daddy's Millenion. Walken stops Grave's punch as if it were nothing. Walken challenges Grave and awaits Grave at his estate. Before he leaves, he apologizes to Mika for what Millenion has done to her.
Later on Mika questions Grave on whether or not he accepts. She also asks why he bothers. Grave leaves to Walken's place.
Walken lunges toward him quickly but Grave dodges in time. Unfortunately for Grave, his coffin got sliced. After missing, Walken transforms into a Superior. Grave tries to prevent the transformation but Walken slices his bullets in half. They continue to clash until Walken's entire home is in pieces.
Once his home is destroyed, Walken undergoes a complete transformation. He becomes a statuelike samurai with floating fists. He uses those hands to immobilize Grave. Grave only has one gun and that's in his hand that is restrained by Walken. When Walken goes for the kill, Brandon drops his gun, and catches it in his free hand. He shoots at Walken with his AntiSuperior bullets. Walken is defeated.
Episode 24: Last Bullet Harry checks out the ruins of his lab that Grave just destroyed. While Grave was destroying the lab, Glock laments about how Grave could easily defeat his Orgmen. The entire city is emptied out by Grave. Back at Harry's home, he gets prepared with weapons. Sherry is concerned about Harry she she tries to make sure if he's alright. When he reassures him, his butler appears, attempting to assassinate him. Walken's Overkills are already ahead of the butler and kill him before he can fire. It turns out the rest of Millenion planned that assassination. The "mutiny" is underway.
Harry attempts to be driven through the city. One of Millenion's cars block their way and another assassination is attempted. The Overkills defeat their first attackers right away but are then wiped out by grenade launchers from attackers waiting on rooftops. Harry commands the driver to back out of the area so they can escape. Another car blocks their path. Another grenade launcher wipes out the rest of the Overkills. Next Harry sends out his Orgmen to take clear a path for escape. They finally do.
Meanwhile, Grave heads towards the Millenion headquarters on a motocycle. He reminisces on the moment with Mika before he took off. Grave accepts being part of her family and Mika is confident that he will return. Before she can relax, she notices that Graves body is falling apart.
In front of the Millenion building, Grave starts to enter. He reminices some more on the moment before arriving there. Grave showed Mika his body, and Mika pleaded for him to forget his revenge, promising to study so she can maintain him like Dr. Tokioka. To shut her up, he knocked her unconscious and headed out.
Inside, Bunji awaits him. Grave makes the first shot. Bunji's hand is blown off but he regenerates. They begin their fight.
Elsewhere, Harry stops at a hotel to drop Sherry off. Yet another assassination is attempted. Harry defeats him but Sherry is hit. She dies.
At the building, Harry and Bunji are still going at it. Bunji kicks Grave into the ceiling. When he comes back down, Grave's body is beginning to fall apart. They decide to finish it. Bunji takes the gun he shot from Grave, and Grave loads his remaining gun with Anti Superior bullets. Bunji is defeated.
Grave enters an elevator to Harry's office only to find it empty. One of his body parts crack and fall apart.
The episode ends with Lil Partner trying to find where Bunji went.
Episode 25: Then Harry drives off, annoyed with how Millenion has ransacked his home. Grave on the otherhand, is off in search of Harry. Despite his condition. At a hidden lab, Harry awakes some Orgmen as reinforcements.
At a cathedral, Sherry is laid to rest. Harry is the only one to attend. Outside, Millenion are wiping out the Orgmen with antinecrolyzers.
Outside the Millenion building, Mika tries to find Grave. Some guy tells her that Harry is booted and she is no longer a target.
Harry confidently drives off. Only to find his Orgmen being annihilated by antinecrolyzers. He is once again being targeted. Harry tries to lose his pursuers. He manages to escape. During his escape, Harry almost hits Bunji's cat but swerves away and crashes into the wall instead.
Flashback. Harry complains about losing a bet. Harry and Brandon overhear dudes trying to attack Maria. Harry tells Brandon to stay out of it. Brandon nods and kicks their asses. After they run away Brandon thinks he's in love.
Back at their diner, Harry tells his buddies that Brandon has a crush. Brandon says nothing. His friends are being nosy about it. Maria then enters and Brandon a pie as a thank you. Brandon and Maria go for a walk. His friends follow and try to see if Brandon gets any.
Flashback over. Harry wakes up. Grave found him. Harry gets out of the car and kinda approaches Grave. Grave pulls out his gun, ready to fire. Luckily for Harry, Grave ran out of bullets. They both randomly laugh out of nowhere.
Episode 26: Dusk of the Destroyers Grave and Harry head into their old diner. They talk about things. Harry gets into learning that Brandon knew all along what he did to climb the ladder. Finally Harry gets to the question of why Brandon didn't kill him when he had the chance. Brandon answers that he thought Harry would become the boss and make things right. He had faith in Harry.
Harry pulls out some Tian Sati and shares it with Brandon. After talking some more, Harry pulls out two guns. One that Brandon could've killed Harry with, and one Harry killed Brandon with. They decide to settle the score. Both of them quickly grab the gun from the table, and aim at eachother.
Instead of shooting eachother, Harry shoots an agent that tried to shoot them. Millenion begins shooting at the building. Before Harry could get shot, Brandon acts as a shield. Brandon kicks two remaining agents out. Harry then asks why Brandon is helping him.
Since Brandon defended Harry, now they are both Millenion's targets. Harry is finally hit. Soon the swat team of some sort arrives, armed with antinecrolyzers.
Harry is pissed that Brandon didnt answer why Brandon was helping him. So he yells a bit and then calms down. He demands Brandon to kill him.
Suddenly a bomb is thrown into the building. The building is in pieces. The swat team investigates and assumes both of them are dead. Brandon blocked Harry from being crushed and emerges from some rubble. The swat team starts shooting and Harry gets rid of some in retaliation. Brandon then leaps into the sky and kicks the living daylights out of one of them. Next he flings a nearby brick into another swat dude's face. More swat people arrive and shoot at Brandon with antinecrolyzers. He is finally don. Harry slides a gun to him and Brandon picks it up, shooting out the legs of the guy who shot him. Even more swat people arrive. They turn Harry into Swiss cheese. Grave gets up enraged and screams.
In a car, the current Millenion leader orders them to stop the attack. The attack has stopped. There are still some signs of life left in Harry and one of Brandon's legs falls apart. Harry checks out Brandon's condition.
"I keep making the same mistake. Choosing Harry MacDowell over Millenion."
Brandon still has no regrets of being unable to kill him. Harry then wails and apologizes to Brandon. They both kill eachother to go back to they freedom they once had.
When Mika arrives, she runs to the scene. Unfortunately for her, Brandon aint alive anymore.
